Gaming report.

The New York primary happened, not much surprising there and I will talk about it tomorrow.

I wanna talk about roleplaying instead, a while back I posted a little plot synopsis of if Cabot Cove, the setting of much of the Murder She Wrote series, was the source of some murdery conspiracy, at the time a friend mentioned it sounded like a fun RPG setting and I agreed, so I am now running it.

I created a rules system and collected some friends and we play via chat, had our first session earlier today and it turned out to be pretty fun.

See, when playing face to face a lot of people have a tendency to not play a real character, instead going with just a pure snarky asshole, I think because we tend to be self conscious about acting when others can see us. In text form however that problem goes away and we get some good role-playing out of it. Having multiple chat rooms allows for out of character conversation that doesn't distract from the main story, and you can listen to your own music or work on other things while you play without messing anyone else up, it's really quite convenient all around.

The story going to be a slowly developing murder mystery/horror with maybe a supernatural element in it. My rules system is pretty flexible and allows for easy character creation and the players came up with some interesting stuff, we have a possible criminal, a crazed conspiracy theorist, a marine biologist, a ghost hunter, and an insurance investigator.

They met during dinner at the one hotel in town and proceeded to view a seance hosted by our ghost hunter, which turned out to be an experience for all involved and managed to set a good atmosphere for everything that comes later.

It's nice to game with my friends again, even if it isn't face to face.
