Conspiracies and Jeffrey Epstein

In general I don't believe in conspiracy theories, the human brain has a tendency to see patterns, many think that this adaptation has served us well during our evolution, allowing us to create chains of cause and effect as well as hunt effectively, but it can get out of hand. Conspiracy theories arise when we see patterns that aren't there, or even create patterns out of whole cloth, the problem is there are nearly 8 billion people on this planet and a lot of history, which means that there is a pretty large volume of information to go digging in if you want to find patterns, even if you restrict yourself to confirmed sources.

I believe we did go to the moon and it went pretty much as our history says it did, I don't think Bush did 9/11, although I am willing to accept that he may have allowed it to happen, intentionally or otherwise. I don't think most of my views are terribly controversial and especially when it comes to great big government cover ups I have little faith that they are competent enough to succeed at the biggest conspiracies.

And so we come to Jeffrey Epstein, billionaire, probable pedophile, nearly certainly a rapist probable sex trafficker to the rich and famous(who are also pedophiles, and rapists), and as of last week, also deceased in his jail cell due to "suicide".

Epstein ran an escort service for the rich that mostly took place on things like yachts in international waters, private islands, and luxury aircraft. His clients include both current and former presidents, as well as lesser politicians, businessmen, actors, directors, and Matt Groening. His arrest on charges of doing the things I mentioned above was a pretty big deal, and it became even bigger once his safes were cracked and they found client lists.

So his death maybe should come as no surprise, we all know the Clintons will kill people for nearly any reason, let alone to cover up their sex crimes, so it was probably them who done it.
...

Okay that was sarcasm referencing the conspiracy theories that the Clintons murder people vaguely associated with them in order to... something while leaving their most public and avowed enemies alive and well to age gracefully, if Epstein was killed I do not believe the Clintons did it, but Bill at least probably belongs in jail anyway.

A lot of us on the left(and honestly the right too) take it as a given that Epstein was killed, after all, he did presumably have a lot of dirt on a lot of people, and would likely have spilled his guts at even a chance of a deal that would let him see the outside of a supermax in his lifetime. But let's think about this a minute, what is gained by killing him? Okay he can't talk, that's a big one, but how much damage does that actually do to the case? There are actual documents supporting the accusations, as well as witnesses in the form of the women involved, who honestly I feel like would have been the first people killed if there was a truly determined cabal attempting to cover their tracks. I do not know, and I suspect very few do, the specific details of what they have to say or what the client lists and other information found in the safes contained, but I feel like if I ran an underage sex ring to the most powerful people in the world I would make sure I had some good leverage personally.
Additionally, when people who think they are untouchable suddenly find out otherwise, as Epstein did when he got arrested, they can find themselves falling pretty hard, if he truly didn't think he was going to get out of this then he very well could have offed himself, hell if he thought it would confuse the investigation or protect someone else important to him he might have done it for those reasons too.

On the other hand, we know he was on suicide watch after an attempt that he says wasn't a suicide attempt but was rather an attack, we also know that a few days before his death he was taken off of suicide watch, we also know the rich and powerful are both vengeful, greedy, and stupid and certainly capable of doing him in purely out of spite even if it doesn't help the case. Ordinarily I would believe the assertion of the person who was arrested and is dead now, but usually the people I am believing are poor and not white, which isn't the case here.

The real problem is that we may never actually know the truth, the place he died isn't exactly known for it's plethora of witnesses, and paid killers aren't generally known to spill all on 60 minutes, unless they are Dick Cheney. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies will keep a lid on things as best they can at least until the investigation and trials(if any) are concluded, and the powerful elite are in no hurry for this to be public no matter who did it or why.

I guess if you put a gun to my head and made me choose, I would say my personal opinion tends to be that he killed himself, but honestly it's pretty fuckin' close and very little would surprise me here.

Unless a bunch of rich and powerful folks actually find themselves suffering consequences, that would be a shocker.
