Testify!

James Comey testified before the Senate intelligence committee today, and the media went berserk. Make no mistake, this is important and damning stuff, but to be honest he didn't really say anything we didn't already know. I mean, we already knew the president is awful, we knew there was Russian interference in the election, we know that Comey was fired for refusing to drop any investigation against Michael Flynn, we know that because The Toddler literally said so.

That said, this till matters, for a top intelligence official, even(or especially) a fired one, to come straight out and say "The White House lied" about anything, is a pretty big deal, let alone about things relating to the investigation of international influence on our elections.

The things said here, backed up by the memos that he gave to the special counsel are going to be pretty hard to explain away, not that many on the right won't try, the Orange One has been strangely silent, as have his inner circle, but the lesser mouthpieces have been doing their best to pretty much deny everything, thus far it isn't going too well. At this point I think the press is starting to decide that they would much rather cover an impeachment than sticking to some sort of "balanced" reporting, and outside of the Washington Post, most outlets are pretty much in agreement that shit is real by now.

This wasn't a bombshell, we knew pretty much what was in it before it happened, but Comey's willingness to testify combined with his very clear attempts during questioning to stick to the facts and not make judgement calls on the events in question pose a very real threat to the administration, this isn't a Democratic operative, or some wacko coming out of nowhere, it is the former director of the FBI, a man who mere months ago the right was holding up as a hero for winning them the election, and now here he is, calmly, with no name calling or strong emotion, damning the president with testimony that would, in any other era, be more than enough to begin impeachment proceedings.

I honestly don't know if that will happen, but I think the scales are tipping, things are getting bad enough that many House and Senate Republicans are going to start thinking of their own re-election chances soon, as well as their ability to get anything done in this exceedingly rare time of holding all three branches of government.

I don't want you to get the opinion that I think of Comey as a hero or something, I don't, no matter what he does in his life, or did previous, he has negated basically all of that good by ensuring the election of Donald Trump, yes there were many reasons Clinton lost, but if any one of those reasons weren't there she probably wouldn't have, and his was the final nail, all the people who die in avoidable wars, all the loss of jobs and money, all of the damage to the environment, it can all be laid at the feet of James Comey and his decision to play politics at the worst possible time, his testifying is the absolute least he can do in light of that.
