Twin Peaks

Roger Ailes died, so there is another name off the list, I don't really have a list, that would be creepy.

Speaking of creepy, Twin Peeks is coming back, premiering this Sunday I think. It will surprise no one that I am looking forward to it, the original show is one I always come back to in my head, even the weak episodes, and there were many, had elements that were worthwhile and I am wondering what Lynch and Co. will be bringing to this revival.

A theme, maybe the theme, of Twin Peaks was pain, the town, and all the people within it, where defined by their personal tragedy as expressed by the murder of Laura Palmer, sure the show was quirky, funny, weird, and creepy, sometimes even outright scary, but that wasn't the point, all of those things are the reaction to people's pain, they wallow in it, and the show does too.

I don't know what the reception is going to be like for the new one if it maintains the theme, as a viewing populace we might be a little bit tired of hurting, and going into the series expecting strange people and funny jokes will be exactly the wrong mindset for it. On the other hand a show that is nothing more, or less, than various expressions of and reactions to grief and loss might go over pretty well with a population increasingly subject to new of unimaginable cruelty.

For all I know I am dead wrong and David Lynch will turn it into a light hearted comedy romp through Northern Washington, but my guess based on the trailer is that won't be the case.

I'd still probably watch it though.
