What comes next

The Toddler is on pace to give out a record number of executive orders within the first 100 days of his tenure, doing a list of things that I honestly don't have the heart to look up and provide links to, it is too depressing.

But something vaguely interesting is happening and I want to see where it goes, local governments and departments of the federal government are defying him.  Multiple departments including NASA, the Parks Department, and the EPA have all started Twitter accounts in defiance of his order muzzling their communications. NASA has released all the research they are funding to the public, local mayors of "sanctuary cities" are outright defying threats of funding cut offs. Many blue states are showing signs of putting their own initiatives together to make up for things that the federal government is cutting off, like healthcare.

Found a list
It is still super early, but I am starting to suspect that in many states doing stuff like that, things may not end up being so bad, of course the rest of the country might end up a poverty stricken hellhole, but there is a limit to what can be done about that apparently.

The question on my mind, and yeah this is totally theoretical, is this: If I am right, and things do get better, then why exactly would we want to be part of the greater union at all? What protections would we have in the Cascadia region under the federal government that we wouldn't have already had to figure out for ourselves after four years of The Toddler? Even if the Democrats retake the White House in 2020?

The question down the line may actually be ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country, but only because the country might need us more than we need it.

It's a little farfetched sure, but I don't think beyond the realm of possibility at this point.
