World of Warcraft: Legion

I've been playing a lot of Legion since it came out twoish weeks ago, I have a character at max level and am working my way up in gear so I can see what the raid content is like, I've done most of the dungeons on heroic difficulty and a good scattering of stuff throughout the rest of the game and I have to say I am really impressed so far and don't see how it is going to get worse.

There is a shitload of stuff to do in this expansion and while from a story perspective it still suffers from the lack of urgency created by the need to grind, there is still a lot of effort put into getting you to care about the various characters you meet and their goals. Plot information was revealed that surely took me by surprise and we learn much more about the Titans and their whole mythology, for those unaware the Titans are(or possibly were) a race of creator beings responsible for life on Azeroth, the world WoW is centered on.

Hitting max level is really the start of the game, and you continue to gain new powers as you improve your artifact weapon that every class gets at the beginning of the story, new pseudo events called world quests become available that give you a reason to revisit every zone and they range from gathering a rare herb to killing a boss monster to flying around in levitating bubbles looking for magic artifacts for a wizard. The storyline quests are really extensive and don't stop either, with your class campaign taking time to develop and various other plotlines in the other zones sometimes requiring a break for a couple levels before picking them up again.

All in all it might be the most actual fun I've had in WoW since I first started playing and that is saying something as I have been playing off and on for the entire history of the game.

One complaint, Blizzard seems to hate flying, and ever since they introduced the ability to get flying mounts, every expansion seems to go out of it's way to provide obstacles to their use, ranging from a large gold investment to, in Warlords of Draenor, a massive and complicated achievement chain that literally takes weeks or months to complete. They are repeating this in Legion, with an equally complex achievement that doesn't even itself grant flying, it is "part one" and presumably part two will be added in a future patch. I get that Blizzard wants us to stay on the ground and encounter their cool new things, but if that was going to be the case they could have simply not out flying into the game at all or just prevent it altogether in areas they want us to slog through on the ground. Having hoops to jump through might be more frustrating than not having the option at all.

Anyway, I am having fun again with the game, and if you are considering playing now is a pretty good time to get into it. If you are on the Mal'Ganis server look for Coquenbols the Troll Shaman and say hi.
