My cat Sally had an accident while out and about today that resulted in a cut a couple inches long and really deep on her side, we took her to the vet and they got it stitched up without much trouble except for a large bill.
Now she has to stay inside with a cone on until the stitches come out, this is a problem, see, our other cat, Pokey, is larger than her and does not care for her one bit, he has spent the last year or so slowly asserting dominance over the house and she is not comfortable at all inside anymore, at the moment we are locking her in our bedroom to start getting her acclimated and to keep her from running into her nemesis, but she seems pretty uncomfortable and antsy and won't stop cruising around the room looking for a way out, this wouldn't be a problem except it is noisy.
I imagine she is in a fair amount of pain, but she absolutely refuses to take the painkillers we were provided with a vigor that makes me fear she is going to hurt herself even more by tearing the stitches or something.
I don't sleep well with noise in the room, so this is basically one of my personal hells, I may have to go crash on the couch, but that isn't really optimal either. She is supposed to be inside for two weeks and if a solution isn't presented I may go mad.
It isn't that bad really, tonight is going to be rough, but as she heals and feels better she should chill out a bit, the problem will be containing her, we can't keep her in our room the entire time, and she is very quick to exploit openings, not to mention close proximity to the other cat won't be good for anyone involved. There is some hope on that front however, it has been clear for a while that Pokey would need to be rehomed somewhere that didn't have any other cats in it, and we may have found that somewhere last night, with any luck we can give Sally the run of the house once again without having to worry about personality conflicts.
If there is anything to learn from this it is to introduce your cats properly before expecting them to share space, we could possibly have avoided this if we had done so.
