So to no ones surprise, Trump handily won in Indiana today, and virtually to everyone's surprise Ted Cruz ended his campaign for the nomination.
I did not see that coming and can't really explain why he would choose to drop out now, after what had to have been a predictable loss, and it is hard to reconcile what happened today with my view of Cruz as a zealot completely out of touch with reality who can't even comprehend the idea of actually losing.
But I will try, see I think Cruz invested a lot in Indiana, I don't mean money, but Indiana was supposed to be the lat evangelical bastion that was mostly unpolled and his supporters would crawl from the woodwork there and deliver a strong blow against Trump that he could ride through the last few states and the convention. That clearly didn't happen, probably because he is an awful, awful, man so his horrible little mind had to face that his supporters just weren't going to vote, if indeed they exist at all(they don't).
Don't be fooled though, we haven't seen the last of Cruz this year, he still has a large haul of delegates and the ability to perform trickery at the convention even if Kasich drops out and Trump sweeps into it with 1237 I do not put it past Cruz to tear his party apart even more out of spite and lust for power. But it may not go that far, I think Kasich is far more electable than Cruz in these last few states and might surprise us with his performance, there is a chance, albeit a small on, that he keeps Trump under 1237 on his own and there must be a vote at the convention that goes to at least two ballots.
It is entirely possible I am grasping at straws here and I simply cannot let go of the option that provides me personally with the most entertainment but I just can't believe that Cruz would let this go so easily after getting this close, I guess we'll see but it's gonna be a pretty interesting month or two leading up to it.
