I've written before a bit about how the saving grace of bigots on the right wing, which essentially means the entire thing, is that they are so fucking stupid about how they go about it. I mean, these people had an election come down to Cruz or Trump, their main difference being what minority population they hate more, Mexicans for Trump, Trans people for Cruz, with a tie on the Muslim hate.
But they seem to think that everyone just agrees with them and refuse to try to subtly move their agenda forward.
Let's talk about North Carolina.
They have a bathroom bill that we all pretty much know about, and have been taking shit for it on an international scale ever since it was passed, and it is unlikely to hold up to a court challenge. Already complaints are coming from cis-women who were hassled because passerby thought they might be trans, and so far no actual sex offenders have been caught under the new law. The law is essentially unenforceable without a dick check at every restroom as well.
But with even a tiny bit of thought, the bill could have been branded a bit more agreeably to the public and sold without nearly the amount of controversy while still doing the exact same thing.
First, talk about it as a safety issue, not a trans one, use statistics of male on female assaults and say the bill will work to reduce those, don't mention "men dressing up as women" at all except in targeted advertising to very specific demographics. Next you actually need a solution to the "problem", lets call it... TruID, what it is is an RFID chip encoded with the gender on your birth certificate, this chip is built into your state issued identification, next, all public bathrooms are given a lock that opens only if the attached RFID reader identifies a chip of the correct gender. Bam, "problem" solved, you've kept those dastardly trans people from feeling comfortable anywhere now, yet not even said the name of their demographic.
And you can spin it as a small business measure, offer a tax credit to any organization who installs it in their restrooms, the readers also have to be manufactured, which could create jobs as well, so in one bill we are now increasing public safety, helping small business, and creating jobs. Now tell me that wouldn't pass with a lot less uproar while actually accomplishing the real goal of he bill that NC actually passed.
I thought of this in literally the last thirty minutes.
That's what I mean, these people's horrible ideas could sneak in with minimal notice if they actually put any thought at all into their plans, but they don't, they seem to think that if they shout loudly enough that is all they need to convince others they are right, and to be fair that does seem to work one in a while, but there is always a backlash, and if they were smart they would be working to keep that down.
But they aren't, for which we can all be grateful I guess.
