None of my new coworkers know what my voice is supposed to sound like, I have been sick literally every day I have been scheduled and tomorrow looks to be no different. Although I am mostly feeling better now except for my throat anyway, so that is something.
Labor issues are something I feel pretty strongly about, and not only because I am poor and that sucks, but rather this stuff is the easiest way to see how the imbalance of power affect those of us who live near the bottom, while stuff like the Panama Papers is huge and important, it is also hard for those of us who live paycheck to paycheck to understand just how those abuses are anything we should care about.
But shitty pay and bad hours with minimal support and no benefits? We have all experienced that, which is why hearing about yet another CEO getting millions of dollars in bonuses while they lay off people like us is so infuriating, it's why we get pissed off when Congress refuses to pass laws reigning in the financial sector, and indeed actively works to strip what little protections we have in place while claiming to represent us.
We flock to people who claim they can change it and support us, currently Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, despite the fact that Trump's actual policies, such as they are and what there are of them, do precisely the opposite of what he claims. But he talks a good game, and we desperately want someone, anyone, who can give us real representation with those at the top.
But they can't, they won't and they never shall, Sanders might try if he wins, but the rest of the system won't respect him enough to let anything pass, Capitalism is a vastly powerful rapidly reacting power structure that defends itself very well by allowing those who have gained power through it to perpetuate those gains endlessly, it does not encourage competition and loves abuse, the rewards for abusing the power structure are literally endless for the one percent, and when they think of anyone outside their bubble, it is only in terms of how to use them. It's the accumulation of resources to gain power, how could it be anything else? People are as unimportant to Capitalism as they were in the worst excesses of the Communist USSR, but we don't have to imprison or disappear our dissidents, the system works quite nicely in ignoring them and making sure they gain no power.
It encourages the absolute worst in both those in power, and those without, unfettered Capitalism is easily the greatest threat to the world today. Beating out terrorism or nuclear annihilation handily, because really, all other threats are simply tools that can be used to self perpetuate any program o regime that already hols power.
I have no solutions or closing statement on this, I sat down to write and this is what came out, make of it what you will.
