The fight for net neutrality continues at the Senate level with the current push to overrule the FCC's recent decision having some 50 votes now, according to Senate Democrats anyway. This is fairly cool news that we should probably not get terribly excited about.
I give it decent odds that they find another Republican or two who can break the deadlock, but then it goes to the House, which is full of terrible people on both sides and I suspect it will die there, but even if it doesn't there is no way it reaches a veto proof majority so the president will simply kill it on his desk.
Assuming the government doesn't shut down before it gets there of course.
But I don't actually believe this resolution is intended to succeed, oh the writers will be happy if it does don't get me wrong, but it's main purpose is to keep a wildly unpopular decision fresh in the mind of the public for as long as possible, the more people can associate ending net neutrality with the Republican congress, the harder their time is gonna be come the mid terms. To that end I can't imagine Senate Democrats are too upset with the idea of delays in voting, or even endless wrangling in the House, and if we do end up in a shutdown and have to pick it up again later, so much the better, the American public has a short memory after all.
Anyway, I am encouraged by the progress anyway, such as it is, honestly I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it gets overturned, it isn't like undoing net neutrality is a core issue with R voters or anything, so bowing to public pressure this once wouldn't hurt any of those in congress, I guess we'll see.
