Look at this shit, fucking look at it, I talked last night about not being mad all the time and this is what pops up on my feed? More wealth than can actually be comprehended in this country and come Christmas this is the kind of shit that happens? Fucking hell, here is another one from last year. For those of you who can't be arsed to click links, the first one is about a first grade girl in Texas who as part of a class project wrote a letter to Santa asking for a ball, a blanket, and some food, but mostly the blanket because it is cold and she can usually eat at school, the second link is from last year, another little girl doing a donation drive for, again, blankets, at least in that one she wasn't the one who needed them.
But that is where we are, the poor helping the poor, and when one of the mega rich deigns to contribute to some cause we are supposed to feel all warm and fuzzy that they have lowered themselves to helping the peons, nevermind that they literally could fix any social issue they choose to care about
Alternatively of course, we could have prevented this from happening at all if people on either side of the aisle actually viewed poverty as a societal failing rather than a personal one, but whatever, I don't understand how someone can see a story like that and still think things are okay, but I then again I am not a fucking sociopath.
I would take consolation in the fact that the USA is not unique in how it treats the poor, but who the hell wants to take consolation in the fact that incredible cruelty is so widespread? How can anyone possibly think that is a good thing? I wish we lived in a world where the good old US of A was the only country degenerating into serfdom. We should all be ashamed.
Just remember when you read these stories, there is a not insubstantial portion of the population who sees that and thinks "working as intended" these are not nice people, keep that central to your thinking, it doesn't matter how they treat their family or if they make a show of volunteering in a soup kitchen once a year during the holidays, their political positions on any issue except this do not matter, they don't make up for it, they are personally responsible for perpetuating the ongoing atrocity that is every day life under capitalism and they think there is nothing wrong with that at all. If someone reads those stories and they have any reaction other than "how could we let this happen?" They are part of the problem. Remember that no matter how nice they are to you, if there is some part of them that thinks this is okay they are broken in ways that are terrifying to contemplate.
Happy fuckin' holidays
