Keeping in mind the points of my previous post, understand me when I criticize John McCain and know that his military service does not, and should not, play a part in how he is regarded today.
As you may or may not know, the Senate attempts to discuss a health care repeal or replacement were pretty much not gonna happen due to the fact that the GOP didn't have the votes to even bring it up for debate because of a couple of defections and the fact that McCain was out recovering from brain surgery, he apparently has cancer. I could not be less sympathetic, he hauled himself out of bed, away from the medical treatment provided by the government that is saving his life, and proceeded to vote against that being an option for the rest of us once he reached Washington DC.
Now some of you might say that he only voted to begin discussion and debate, and also said that he wouldn't vote for the bill being discussed in its current form, and yes he did say that, but he still voted for the bill and it had only minor changes before going to the full vote.
It was an act of appalling hypocrisy, cruelty, and cowardice, taking away healthcare from tens of millions of people was so important to him that he literally cut short recovery from brain surgery to vote for it. There was apparently a stirring speech on the Senate floor about getting something done for once, and blah blah blah who gives a shit. Fucker.
I mean it when I say cowardice by the way, McCain, while he may have acted bravely during his time of service, has since proven himself to be the most craven of politicians, I don't know if it was Barack Obama that broke him, if he just aged into a shitty person, or if it was hiding there all along and he just fooled himself into thinking he was the brave war hero that everyone claims he is. His views on virtually every issue save for that of torture have spun predictably based on the party line, time and again he has gone from strident opposition to the extremists of his party to meekly bowing to them once they gain power, and to what end? His party basically ignores him, he is never going to be president, particularly with a cancer diagnoses that will likely kill him within a couple of years, but even beyond that he is a relic with neither authority nor respect from his own party.
It would be a perfect time to make a stand, to do something that his party disagrees with because it is right, it isn't like they can hurt him, but no, he chose to toe the line and fuck the rest of the country.
And it meant nothing, the bill failed miserably, as I predicted, with nine Republicans voting against it.
He is of course not the only coward in government, if nine Republicans defected, well 43 of them didn't, and those who voted against the bill aren't exactly angels either, most of them were against it because it wasn't evil enough remember.
His past military service doesn't get him a free pass from criticism, it doesn't make him an expert on how to run the country, or on knowing what is best for the people of the nation, it's health, or security, all it did was give him lingering health problems and likely nightmares I would wish on no one.
Except he is doing his damnedest to deserve his pain, it's like he paid in advance for being a shitty person and I cannot bring myself to feel bad for him, even with his diagnoses.
Health care is far from over as a debate, there are a couple more versions of the bill floating around that might get voted on at some point, but I think this is the tipping point, we got a vote, it was rejected harshly, this will likely repeat until someone calms Mitch McConnel down.
