Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman comes out soon, like next week I think. One theater chain is apparently doing a series of woman only screenings, and this has some people(men) upset. Cries of "discrimination!" and "Social Justice Warriors!" echo through the Youtube comment sections and blog postings, presumably they do this between sending dick picks to people with feminine sounding gamertags and calling those they don't like "pussies" while playing Overwatch.

As you might be able to gather, I couldn't give less of a shit about these people's feelings. I do feel like it is important to understand what is going on here though, these guys aren't precisely mad about not being allowed into a few showings of a movie, the problem is a lot more existential than that, they are seeing a violation of everything they have been taught of how the world works, it's a situation that doesn't assume they are the primary audience and that is something completely alien to them. As males, we get to assume, usually correctly, that any space is geared towards our desires, we are the default setting, and anything different is kind of scary, or at least glaringly obvious.

Now many(most?) people will simply see situations like this, shrug, and forget about it, if they think about it at all they will likely recognize it is unusual and that is it, but for some people, an uncomfortably large portion of whom are nerds, react by getting all pissy about it. I mean we are already taking a comic book movie with a female lead, something that the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for all I love it, has made absolutely no attempt to do, which means that already the boys are uncomfortable, we don't know if we can handle our Nazi punching action fest if it means we have to root for the womenfolk, but hey, we suck it up, Zack Snyder knows what we like anyway, Sucker Punch was great! And 300 kicked ass too, plus the trailers showed there seems to be some sort of male guy telling her what to do, so that is probably alright. But for a national company to tell us that we can't go to some of the showings? Madness, complete madness! Super-Heroes are ours! Time to put on our finest fedora and start looking up fake statistics on spousal abuse!

For the reasons listed above, I am not hugely optimistic about the movie, but I hope it is great, I hope it makes hundreds of millions of dollars and spawns a franchise that covers decades and multiple reboots, getting more and more radical feminist in its messaging each time, I hope every woman who sees it comes out of the theater with the burning need to punch the next dude who says something about safe spaces or "fake nerd girls" in the dick over and over again and never stop. Just to prove these idiots wrong about everything.

They aren't using them for anything important anyway.
