So The Toddler hit 100 days this week, a milestone that everyone seems to think is important no matter who is president. I find that stupid as hell when you are talking about our government, which is not known for doing anything fast, but that is not to say there is nothing to learn from it.
I won't go into detail about his accomplishments, or lack thereof, if you are one of his supporters you think he did a lot, if you are a sane person you know he did a lot, while at the same time not doing anything particularly meaningful, particularly with regards to campaign promises, yes his ongoing assault on the environment is puzzling and enraging, but it isn't something that can't be dealt with assuming we all survive.
There have been tons of thinkpieces written about the first 100 days, none of them are really worth a damn because they insist on trying to fit him into the existing structure, either by showing how much he has embraced the establishment and just become another piece of the machine, man, or how he is turning the establishment on it's head with his outsider perspective and blah blah blah, it's all complete bullshit.
The truth is he doesn't fit those categories because he is not, in any sense, a politician. In this if perhaps nothing else he has always told the truth. He doesn't care, or even know, what the standards are for operating in the political world, he has no love or even detailed knowledge about the structures of our political organizations, plus, and this is the most important part, he is not acting in the countries best interest.
Now people say that about every president, and it is true at least some of the time for all of them, however when I say it about The Toddler I mean something different. The difference is that most if not all the previous presidents thought that they were doing so, they believed that their vision was good for the country, what I am saying about The Toddler is that the good of the country is not something he takes into consideration at all. It simply doesn't factor in to his decision making process.
It is futile and possibly harmful to attempt to psychoanalyze the president and I don't intend to, but it is clear that, clinically or not, he is a narcissist above all else, his decisions are made based on what will make him feel good, and what makes him feel good is the acquisition of power and wealth, the regard, and if he can't have that, at least the attention, of the world, and the use of his power and influence. He wants people to like him, he wants to have more than everyone, and he wants to have an impact on the world, the specific details of how he gets this things do not concern him, his belief system is entirely modifiable based on those goals, and I have no doubt that if some insane group of billionaire liberals had offered to give his country enough contracts or something, he would have run as a Democrat instead to a remarkably similar end result.
Which brings me to my largest problem with the man, we all basically take it as a given that politicians can be bought, even up to and including the president, but we assume, and usually correctly that the buying will be done behind the scenes and once bought, an individual stays purchased, but that is not true with The Toddler, and the scariest thing about him is not that he can be bought, but rather how for how cheaply, and how often it can be done.
It isn't exactly about money of course, though I would not be surprised if one day he literally does something and says "The government of Saudi Arabia just paid me 2.5 million dollars for this" or some shit, but remember his priorities, if he is offered something that would help those, then he'll take it, it's why he is making war threats with North Korea right now, not because he cares that they are a danger to world peace, but moving carrier groups around is exercising power, anything war related boosts approval ratings as well, so that is what gets to happen.
The first 100 days are just a taste of what is to come, don't assume his actions day to day represent a larger plan, and don't assume a change of policy represents him learning or evolving as a politician, he has gotten this far without any plan other than "I am running for president" and he has no interest in being a real politician, there is no motivation for him to do so.
