The Ambiguously Human Duo

A lot happened during my absence, Trump may have all but sewed up the nomination with his victories on Tuesday, now it mostly comes down to Indiana. On the Dem side Sanders may have seen the writing on the wall, they are cutting campaign staff and that is never a good sign, the staff is all in states that have already voted, so they claim anyway, but as a matter of perception it ain't great. Personally I don't see his path to the nomination anymore, he just hasn't managed to win enough and will need massive victories in the last few primaries to make up his deficits, and that is without considering the Superdelegates, he might play it out, but my guess is he suspends within the month.

This is real.

And today Ted Cruz announced Carly Fiorina as his running mate, a move which absolutely baffles virtually everyone seeing as how it's still like three months to the convention and he is ridiculously far behind and relying on literally screwing with the rules at the convention to win. The announcement speech was chilling, Fiorina sang a creepy little song to Cruz's children. I will not link it because, well, I never want to see her face again, or hear even a snippet of the creepy song, but it's easy enough to find on Youtube or CNN's site.

A pick this early in the race happens virtually never and usually when the campaign is in trouble, the last time? 1976 when Ronald Reagan chose Richard Shweiker as his running mate in an attempt to woo moderate members of the party. It didn't work, though the race was close he was defeated by Ford and his ill considered VP pick is not really credited with helping him out any.

Cruz though, parsing this decision is hard but I will give it a try, okay so we know Cruz needs a good showing in Indiana and California to keep the delegate count close enough to make a contested convention right? I think Cruz looked at demographics and realized that Trump's approval rating with women is in the toilet, now Trump's approval rating is in the toilet with virtually every demographic, but women are probably the one that Cruz is scared of the least so he went with that. Fiorina is essentially a female Cruz, I don't know her personal beliefs, but her rhetoric on the campaign trail, specifically with regards to Planner Parenthood, seems to indicate a close alignment with the ooze man's ideas and she has a business background she can use to attack Trump with as well.

Her fixation on the PP videos is remarkably similar to Cruz's obsession with the North Carolina bathroom bill in that she literally showed no signs of  awareness that there could be another opinion to have on the topic or that anyone could disagree with her, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

So will it work? No, no it won't, just like the short lived alliance with Kasich, this is another desperation move intended only for a short term gain, the problem  is anyone paying attention knows this, it's entirely obvious. Now Indiana has been pretty isolated what with polling and all, and I don't think add buys have been major there until recently as well, so there is a chance that the GOP voter there will warm up to the idea, but it's a long shot at best, possibly his only move outside of somehow actually gaining charisma, but still not a good move.

As for Fiorina I have no idea why she accepted the invitation, I can't remember where I read it but I saw someone say "It's like accepting a ticket to the Titanic's maiden voyage after it already hit the iceberg".
So unless Cruz knows something we don't about the convention...

Also Kasich is still here, eating apparently.
