I normally use today to post another little bit of my stupid fiction thing, but I just watched Archer on Netflix for something like five hours straight and am incapable of creative thought so instead I am gonna talk about my old standby, the Republican presidential primary.
Donal Trump was going to hold a rally in Chicago earlier, but canceled at the last minute due to massive protests, there's a lot of crying about the first amendment happening from the Trump camp and his supporters and it appears to be dragging a few in who claimed to be on the fence, or even supporting the Democrats because of the protesters being fascistic in their restriction of free speech.
First some facts: Donald Trump lied, blatantly, about his reasoning for canceling, the campaign announcement read "Mr. Trump just arrived in Chicago, and after meeting with law
enforcement, has determined that for the safety of all of the tens of
thousands of people that have gathered in and around the arena,
tonight's rally will be postponed to another date."
The thing is, he never met with law enforcement, and they never asked him to cancel, we know this because the CPD actually had a spokesman go on record and say so, what's more, they were confident they had the resources to handle anything that would happen.
The campaign was strangely slack in their security screenings this time, allowing thousands of protesters into the arena for reasons unknown in opposition to their previous policy.
For all the shouting there was virtually no property damage, only five arrests, and three people were injured, one of them a cop who may actually have been hit by a bottle thrown by a Trump supporter.
So, no ones first amendment rights were violated today, well, not at that rally anyway, in fact, that very right was exercised in exactly the way our founders probably intended, with citizenry freely assembling to make their views known. It's great and even though I disagree with Trump on virtually every issue, if his supporters protested a Sanders rally then that is also their right.
But it's an interesting coincidence that the only candidate who is making obvious racism the central part of his platform is getting protested regularly especially when he visits communities with a large amount of minorities isn't it? Almost like there is something being said that makes certain groups feel extremely threatened? Possibly something to with the the crowds it attracts?
Nah it must be my imagination. The left are the real racists.
Also fascists, what salute?
As he grows more and more blatant, I've been wondering when a crowd of his was going to beat someone to death at a rally, fortunately that didn't happen tonight, but he's headed to Cleveland and I think St. Louis in the next few days, and shit's gonna get real ugly
It is interesting that for all his tough talk and bluster about how he would handle protesters, he ditches at the first sign of trouble and lies about it.
Of course, this was probably planned, Trump is actually pretty good at this and he doesn't give even the slightest crap about the general election, he has been slipping slightly over the last few days, nothing major really, a little poll slippage here and there, underperforming slightly in a couple primary states, a boring debate, Ben Carson endorsed him and failed to inspire the people because, you know, Ben fucking Carson. Last time he had a bad week Chris Christie came out to endorse, this time he canceled what he had to know was going to be a pretty contentious rally and suddenly the conversation is all about him again and how the left is trying to shut down his message, he can ride this all weekend and into the next set of primaries on Tuesday.
What does this mean nationally? Well Hillary and Bernie certainly aren't winning Chicago in the Republican primary, it's too far away from the general to make much about it so honestly he only gets a short term boost, but that is all he wanted anyway and in a week or two we'll have another slip or bad couple days, and something new will happen as he discovers just how many limits he can cross before he goes too far.
Enough about Trump, Clinton also released the least interesting reaction to basically anything I have ever seen, if she takes the nomination she better step it up because this shit won't fly in the general election.
God it's bad, like a parody of a politician wrote it.
