Deadpool

Saw Deadpool the other day, I had a lot of fun! It really does wipe away the stain of the version we saw in the Wolverine movie. This Deadpool is pretty much the comic character come to life, kind of insane, regenerates, jokes, murders stuff.

There was also a pretty solidly done love story in there, which I admit is somewhat  different from the comic, but I'll take a well told story over that any day, and I got it.

The humor was borderline, for the most part witty and on point, the best jokes where the ones that referenced Ryan Reynolds other movies, particularly Green Lantern, but topics ranged all over the place, and at some points I was a bit uncomfortable with some of the jokes, really more word choice I guess, plus the rape jokes, I get it, you don't expect Deadpool to be a bastion of PC thought or anything and it fit the character pretty well, but it left a bad taste in my mouth at times, not enough to ruin the movie or anything, but I would find it hard to condemn someone who felt that way. One commentator I found online called Deadpool "A Reddit thread come to life" and that pretty much is an accurate description.

It really embraces the R rating, up to and including full frontal male nudity, but mostly with language and violence, which is fine, there are some characters that don't really work in a PG-13 setting, Deadpool is one of them and they took full advantage of the freedom the rating gave them. Which is great as it will encourage studios to take risks with super hero movies targeted at a more mature(ish) audience, which hopefully is a good thing.

Also, Stan Lee has his single best cameo to date in this flick. I recommend the movie for anyone going to see it without kids and who has a flexible sense of humor, good times.
