Hazy out, the weather reports said it wasn't supposed to be a cloudy day today, but I never saw the sun, there are something like a dozen large wildfires feeding smoke into the Columbia Gorge, which is funneled to us here in Portland, I am really glad I don't have asthma or significant allergies, as it is my eyes watered pretty much the entire time I was out there.
More and more, scientists are saying that it is now too late to halt climate change, and that time probably slipped past ten or twenty years ago, all we can do now is attempt to manage it as best we may, the full consequences of this will not be known for probably at least another generation or two, but it is sure looking like the American southwest is going to become a Mad Max style desert wasteland sooner rather than later.
I of course blame the rich and the baby boomers, as I blame most things on them, not content with fucking up the economy, the unchecked lust for money and power has lead to possibly permanent negative changes to the world climate, which is sort of a major accomplishment if you think about it, the planet is pretty freakin' big, yet, with only a little over a century of industrialization we have accomplished what takes nature hundreds of millennia.
And still, green policies get shot down, and even teaching about climate change faces a vicious fight in some areas, politicians will say stuff that boils down to"Since we don't know everything, we can't do anything." and continue to receive their usual bribes from the established energy providers and leaders of industry, meanwhile a series of obviously edited, completely innocuous otherwise, videos of Planned Parenthood employees discussing business over lunch achieves nationwide witch hunt status nearly overnight. Sometimes I think we deserve what is coming, and as a species we probably do, but individuals don't, and again, the consequences for our impending shift will overwhelmingly negatively effect the poor, since the rich can afford to move.
I am not rich, but I may head North myself if I get a chance, I hate the heat.
